Sesame Street YouTube Channel Hacked, Videos Replaced With Porn

By Megan O'Neill

Yesterday afternoon the Sesame Street YouTube channel was taken offline following a lewd hacker attack in which many of the channel’s videos were taken down and replaced with pornographic video clips.  The channel returned to YouTube this morning, but the incident has left a bad taste in the mouth of Sesame Street fans the world over because, seriously, who would do something like that?

Jeremy Scott of ReelSEO calls the hackers “some of the world’s worst lowlifes” in his article on the matter, which he titled ‘Sesame Street YouTube Channel Hacked By Worst Human Beings Ever.’ I couldn’t agree more.  This whole thing just makes me say, “Ew.”  Little kids watch those videos, sickos!

CNN reported that a message that had been posted to the Sesame Street Channel before it was taken down claimed responsibility for the attack and gave the names of two YouTubers.  However, at least one of these users denied responsibility.  The YouTuber, MrEdxwx, posted a video on his YouTube account with the title ‘I DID NOT HACK SESAME STREET!’ The video consists of the following text: “I did not hack Sesame Street. I am an honest YouTuber.  I work hard to make quality gameplay videos AND MOST IMPORTANTLY I RESPECT THE COMMUNITY GUIDELINES.”  The video has been viewed nearly 25,000 times.

Luckily the hack was caught and the account was taken down within minutes of the porn being uploaded.  Sesame Street provided the following statement:

“We apologize for any inconvenience our audience may have experience today on our Sesame Street YouTube channel.  Our channel was compromised and we are presently working with YouTube/Google to restore our original content.  We always strive to provide age-appropriate content for our viewers and hope to resolve this problem quickly.”

What’s your take on this whole ordeal?  We’d love to hear your thoughts in the comments below.
