Periscope Will Soon Introduce Broadcast Saving, Broadcast Search, More
Twitter formally announced its plans to update Periscope with in-depth broadcast saving features.
Following Periscope‘s launch of its #save hashtag feature, which allows users to save their broadcasts by adding the #save hashtag to the title of their streams, Twitter formally announced its plans to update the application with in-depth broadcast saving features.
Specifically, a future Periscope update will see the app save broadcasts permanently by default, both on a user’s Periscope profile and on Twitter. Users will have the option to set their videos to automatically delete after 24 hours, and they will also be able to manually delete their broadcasts at any time.

Elsewhere, Twitter announced that the app will be updated with a new search button, allowing users to search for live broadcasts or replays matching specific topics or titles. Once users tap the search button, they’ll see a list of topics such as Food, Travel, Music and First Scope. The First Scope topic will be dedicated to welcoming new broadcasters to the platform.
Finally, the update will include the ability to broadcast from a DJI drone. The app will also be updated with a dedicated channel for viewing streams from drones and GoPro devices.
In a statement, Periscope co-founder and CEO Kayvon Beykpour commented:
We’ve seen incredible growth in our community and in the number of live broadcasts created on Periscope over the past year. People are using Periscope to share what’s happening in the world around them, so we felt it was time to evolve beyond the restraint of 24 hours and allow this content to stay in the public record. We’re excited to release this capability, along with a new way for people to search for broadcasts.
Twitter said this update will launch on iOS and Android in the coming weeks. While broadcast saving and the new search feature will launch on both iOS and Android, the ability to broadcast from a DJI drone will only be available on iOS.
