Zynga recently announced its plans to completely shutter OMGPop.com and close four of the developer’s Facebook games, including Gem Rush and Cupcake Corner. However, before the axe was ultimately swung, members of the OMGPop team reportedly attempted to buy the site back from Zynga.

Speaking with TechCrunch, multiple sources familiar with the situation say the team members independently attempted to buy back OMGPop.com, the company’s games and IP. According to the sources, they would have been satisfied with whatever Zynga decided to sell, even if it didn’t include Draw Something or Draw My Thing, which Zynga ultimately decided to continue operating.
