Microsoft's Windows Phone Marketing Strategy

One can argue that the turning point for Google’s Android smartphone OS is when Verizon started running advertisements for the Motorola DROID. Marketing could very well make or break Windows Phone 7 as it joins a crowded smartphone market. In the past neither Microsoft nor its partners have spent much on advertising for Windows Mobile, and in fact in the beginning days their handheld operating systems Microsoft relied almost strictly on word of mouth and enthusiast web sites to get the word out about their product.

Because Microsoft is launching Windows Phone 7 for the holiday shopping season, I expect we will see a lot of commercials from Microsoft and AT&T, otherwise they won’t take full advantage of the holiday.
