Is Pinterest Considering a ‘Buy’ Button?

The addition of a “Buy” button has been a hot topic on Facebook, but could that capability soon come to Pinterest?

According to Re/code, Pinterest could introduce such a button sometime this year.

On the heels of Pinterest’s App Pins feature, sources told Re/code that a direct response Buy button is also in the works:

The Buy button would allow Pinterest users to order and pay for some of the products they discover on Pinterest without leaving the company’s website or app, these people said. Currently, Pinterest’s 70 million monthly visitors use the service to save and share images of things like recipes, furniture, food and clothing. But since Pinterest burst onto the scene several years ago, industry observers, analysts and users have been waiting for the day that it would transform itself from a digital corkboard into a digital mall.

Re/code claims that Pinterest is close to an agreement with Stripe to handle payments processing, but a Stripe spokesperson declined to comment to Re/code.

A Pinterest spokesperson told SocialTimes that the company has nothing to announce:

Part of our strategy to help people discover new things, save them, and do these things in real life has always been to make Pins more useful. App Pins is our latest effort and we have many more ideas but we don’t have any additional plans to announce at this time.
