And The Host For The 2013 Streamy Awards Is…

By Megan O'Neill

The 3rd Annual Streamy Awards, the award show dedicated to honoring excellence in online video programming and the creators behind it, goes live on February 17 at the Hollywood Palladium in LA.  This morning the folks behind the Streamy Awards have announced that actor/comedian Chris Hardwick will be hosting the show next month.

Chris Hardwick, who you probably remember as the co-host of the MTV dating show Singled Out (along with Jenny McCarthy), has gone on to do some pretty cool stuff in the web video arena.  He is the creator of The Nerdist podcast, website and BBC America TV Series, which also took home the award for best online video channel at the IAWTV Awards at CES last week, and is a big proponent of online content.

Hardwick says, “Don’t tell television, but there is some SUPERIOR programming being made on the Interwebz.  I am honored to help give the Web community, many of whom are my friends, the accolades they deserve.  Also, the show is going to be breezy and fun.  I think the Streamys could be a new Tonys! DO YOU HEAR ME NPH?!”

Executive Producer Barry Adelman and Producer Assaf Blecher said, “Chris Hardwick’s proven hosting abilities and comedic talent make him an ideal fit to host this year’s show.  Being such an influential force in pop culture and a powerful online presence, he truly resonates with our audience.”

The Streamy Awards was created in 2008 by Tubefilter’s Drew Baldwin and Joshua Cohen.  This year they have teamed up with Dick Clark Productions, the producers behind the American Music Awards, Golden Globes, and Academy of Country Music Awards to ensure that the show will be bigger and better than ever before.

Awards will be given in a variety of categories from Best Direction to Best Writing, Best Performance, Best Online Musician, Best Animated Series, Best DIY Series, and more.  You can check out the nominees on the Streamys website or in the video below.  Will you be watching the Streamy Awards this year?
