As social TV continues to grow in popularity, social entertainment check-in service GetGlue is making some exciting announcements. They’ve seen a whopping 130 percent growth this summer, making August their biggest month ever. GetGlue users checked in 11.5 million times in August, up from 9 million in July, and True Blood led the check-in pack by a landslide, with 490,787 check-ins.
According to the GetGlue blog, “GetGlue now has over 1.5M users and has a database of over 200M ratings, reviews and check-ins. In August along, GetGlue users liked 10M things, left 3M comments and overall generated over 23M data points about their entertainment tastes.” Since the beginning of this year, GetGlue check-ins have increased by a huge 800 percent. Check out the chart below for a visualization of this growth.
So what have people been checking into this summer? GetGlue stats show that True Blood kicked butt in terms of summer TV check-ins. They received 490,787 check-ins while Pretty Little Liars, the next in line, received 161,960 check-ins. According to the blog, the season premiere of the fourth season of True Blood was the biggest so far, with over 40,000 check-ins. It may have had something to do with the fact that HBO gave out 60 bottles of True Blood to fans just before the premiere. I wonder what that stuff tastes like…
In the movie arena, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part II took the cake, with 174,189 check-ins, setting the all-time check-in record on GetGlue. Captain America came in second with 124,000 check-ins. GetGlue offered rewards for checking into all of the top 10 highest grossing movies, such as their famous GetGlue stickers and more, which likely added to the number of check-ins.
