Boxed is a mobile shopping experience, allowing users to browse and shop for hundreds of items with 1-2 day delivery. Unlike a brick and mortar warehouse club, users aren’t required to purchase an annual subscription fee to use the app.
While the team is comprised of former Zynga executives, who have more experience with gaming than mobile shopping applications, the team has used their acquired knowledge of app design to create an experience that it hopes saves customers both time and money.
“For many years, the mobile gaming industry has pioneered the best practices in user engagement and enjoyment on smartphones,” former Zynga Director, and Boxed CEO, Chieh Huang said in a company statement. “We’re now using all of that knowledge to attract and retain a similar, mobile-focused audience whose buying habits are quickly migrating away from desktops. We’re able to offer low, wholesale prices for consumers who may not have the time or the means to get to a warehouse club.”
Boxed recently completed a $1.1 million funding round which included ENIAC Ventures, Social Starts and former Zynga COO David Ko. Ko is also a Boxed investor, and will lead the company’s board of advisors.
Boxed is currently available to iOS users along the East Coast of the United States, with the program set to expand across the country this fall. The app is also being developed for Google Play. You can follow Boxed’s growth on AppData, our tracking service for mobile and social apps and developers.
