When passengers boarded a Cebu Pacific Airlines flight last week they had no idea what was in store for them. As soon as everyone was seated, Lady Gaga’s ‘Just Dance’ started playing and the flight attendants began dancing down the aisle and demonstrating the safety features of the plane in a choreographed dance routine. The video was uploaded to YouTube on September 30 and now, a mere 5 days later, it already has over 5 million views!
The description on the video says, “Something interesting happened on my Cebu Pacific flight this afternoon. The FAs suddenly burst into a dance!!! That was soooo cooool!!!!” Now, I’m not sure that this was actually a passenger that uploaded the video. It’s more likely that it was Cebu Pacific themselves uploading the video for a little big of publicity and it looks like their expectations were far exceeded. But regardless of who uploaded it, this video has been a huge success.
The VP of Marketing for Cebu Pacific, Candice Iyog, told Time that, “Cebu Pacific has always been known as a fun airline. We wanted to get the message across to our customers that flight safety doesn’t have to be boring.” Iyog said that the flight attendant dance was a one-time experiment, but rather being viewed by a handful of airline passengers it has been viewed by millions worldwide. I have to admit that I had never heard of Cebu Pacific Airlines before I saw this clip, but having seen it I would love to book a flight with them now! Philippines here I come!
Other companies have stages surprise dances in public places in the past, such as the T-Mobile Dance in Liverpool Street Station, which has received over 23 million YouTube views. However, a plane is truly the last place you would expect to find people dancing, which is why I think this video could far outshine T-Mobile and other similar campaigns in the view department. Much Kudos to Cebu Pacific on this brilliant idea, gone viral video. Let us know what you think about it in the comments!
