Facebook Gets Into California Lobbying

Between April and June Facebook spent over $6,600 lobbying in California in an effort to have the Social Networking Privacy Act bill killed. Apparently the effort worked, although the state Senator Ellen Corbett could reintroduce the bill at a later point.

While Facebook has been active with lobbying in California, an article in Politco the other day suggested that similar efforts in Washington D.C. have been pretty weak. Rather than investing heavy lobbying dollars, Facebook has worked hard on educating policy makers and staffers about the best practices on using Facebook.

As Facebook comes under fire for their privacy practices, something that will no doubt increase as more users flock to the site, Facebook has been relatively slow in ramping up their lobbying efforts.
