Last night Facebook made a subtle change which displays user images next to notifications at the top of the site. While it’s not a major upgrade, it’s great in that navigating profile images is frequently much more effective thank navigating text representations of users. In a classic split-testing case, it was found that human photos double conversion rates, and in this case it’s most definitely increasing engagement.
While Facebook is already the largest site in the world based on the time-spent on site, the company has shown an incredible focus on continuous optimization. This effectively illustrates that focus. As Facebook continues to drive forward with improvements that increase engagement, we’ll continue to cover each of those continuous feature improvements.
