Ecwid: Facebook Storefronts Stay The Course In 1Q

Facebook commerce provider Ecwid reported continued momentum for small and midsized retailers using its storefronts on the social network, saying that orders rose 37 percent in the first quarter versus the year-earlier period, while sales jumped 26 percent during the same period.

Ecwid added that sales from Facebook made up 10.3 percent of its merchants’ total online sales during the first quarter of 2013.

The results did not include former Payvment clients, as Ecwid announced in January that it would allow Payvment users to transfer their stores to the Ecwid platform following the shuttering of Payvment’s storefront business.

Ecwid President Jim O’Hara said:

We’re seeing an increasing number of our merchants open online stores on multiple sites, like their websites, blogs, mobile sites, and Facebook pages. We believe retailers should be able to sell anywhere their customers wish to shop online, not just on a traditional website store, eBay, or Amazon. Retailers should have multiple online storefronts to reflect where their target customers look for products. In fact, some of our most successful merchants derive 50 percent to 80 percent of total online sales on Facebook, as they learn how to work the developing social commerce marketplace.
