In the video below, you can watch a product demonstration at SXSW that should make you feel a bit nervous about drone technology. What you’ll see is a volunteer intern as target for a hexacopter drone, equipped with a stun gun that packs 80,000 volts of electrical power. It’s called the CUPID, and it’s the future of drone technology.
This drone looks a bit more mobile than the yellow jacket iPhone case, which comes with 950,000 volts. The designer of CUPID, Chaotic Moon’s William Hurley, sees the armed device as being a property protector that allows hoe owners a safe distance of security, while stunning intruders from afar hardly a critical, self-defense maneuver. Of course, an autonomous drone flying around with tasers is also the stuff of totalitarian nightmares, a perfect fit for Sci-Fi films, not home defense.
