Dragon City dev Social Point shifts focus to action strategy games

Spanish game developer Social Point has experienced a year of massive success, with its mobile games Dragon City and Monster Legends boosting the developer’s catalog to over 40 million current monthly active users (MAU), according to our app tracking platform AppData. Since its formation in 2008, Social Point titles have been downloaded over 100 million times.

In the past, Social Point has focused on the “breeding” game genre, with Dragon City (for instance) allowing users to collect and breed dragons for their collection. Now, the company is shifting focus to “mobile action social strategy” titles, or MASS games. Four new games are in the works, including League of Warriors and three unannounced titles.

League of Warriors gives players “full control of armies,” and is part of the company’s move to create games with longer lasting appeal and deeper strategy. It’s set to launch on iOS and Android this Spring.

“We understand the MASS category is underserved, and our next series of titles address a consumer segment that is hungry for more strategic mobile gameplay, built on competitiveness that can be played for months and years,” said Social Point co-founder and CEO Horacio Martos.

Social Point has doubled its workforce in the past year, bringing it to 180 team members. Its revenues are on pace to pass $100 million for 2014, an increase of 10 times from two years ago.
