DNS-Service Provider for Major E-Commerce Sites Suffers DOS Attack

Neustar, which provides DNS services for e-commerce juggernauts including Amazon, Wal-Mart and Expedia via its UltraDNS unit, was the victim of a denial-of-service attack Wednesday that slowed or halted access to those sites and several others for about one hour, CNET reported.

A Neustar representative told CNET the company’s facilities in Palo Alto and San Jose, Calif., were targeted, adding that Neustar deployed “a mitigation response” within minutes, limiting the issues to Northern California and returning matters to normal within one hour.
