Is Ark Music’s Devin Fox The Next Rebecca Black?

The Rebecca Black hype is finally starting to die down.  I’m sure Rebecca Black’s YouTube hit will continue to see surges in traffic for many Fridays to come, but the big hype is over.  But with the ushering out of one Ark Music Factory star comes the ushering in of another—Devin Fox.

Devin Fox is Ark’s first male artist and his new single, ‘Hooked On You’, is flying up the charts with 1.5 million views so far.  Though 1.5 million pales in comparison to the 135 million views that Rebecca Black’s ‘Friday’ has garnered over recent months, it’s definitely a start and the new Ark single has got people asking whether or not Devin Fox is the next Rebecca Black.

The reason that Rebecca Black went viral in the first place is because her song and video were just plain bad.  And I’ve got to say that, while the video for ‘Hooked On You’ may not be as ridiculously literal as the video for ‘Friday’ and it may not feature Ark Music Factory CEO Patrice Wilson with a random rap interlude, it is pretty bad.  Like Rebecca Black, Devin Fox is auto-tuned to the max and the lyrics…well…you’ll just have to watch the video to see and hear for yourself.

Wait…Did he say “Won’t you be my Bubbe, girl?”  Is he asking this girl to be his Jewish grandmother so he can take her all over the world?  And what’s up with the hook?  Just like Rebecca Black’s famous line, “We so excited!” something doesn’t quite match up with the grammar here: “Your lips, your lips, so soft, so soft…it shines, it shines like the stars from above!”  Shouldn’t it be “they” shine?  Just sayin’.

Of course, it’s no surprise that parodies of Devin Fox’s song are already pouring in.  One of the best comes from YouTuber McGoiter’s ‘Brock’s Dubs’, who garnered nearly 18 million views for his Rebecca Black Parody.  The Brock’s Dub parody of Devin Fox’s ‘Hooked On You’ goes through the video, poking fun at the weird choices for the visuals, as well as Ark Music Factory in general.  It’s a balloon party!  And seriously, what is up with all the basketball flashbacks when Devin enters the party?

So what do you think of Devin Fox’s YouTube hit?  Will he be the next Rebecca Black or does ‘Hooked On You’ fall short of the ridiculousness of ‘Friday’?  Do you think that Ark Music Factory makes these videos and song lyrics as ridiculous as possible on purpose?  Share your thoughts in the comments below.
