If you’ve scooped it, now you can read it, too. Curation platform Scoop.it has announced a new iPad app called Read.it that fills readers’ streams with topics and experts that are tailored to their interests.
Released today in the iTunes store, the app matches readers to relevant content using an interest graph compiled from its community of curators on Scoop.it. In addition to discovering and downloading articles, Read.it users can also share what they find on social networks including Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, and Google+.
“While social networking sites are still an important news source, we’re seeing that a lot of people would prefer to avoid the fire-hose mentality when they consume content – instead they are turning to other means to help them pinpoint only the subjects that they care about,” said Guillaume Decugis, CEO and co-founder of Scoop.it, in a statement. “No other reading app, like Read.it, allows users to drill down through the subject-matter that is most important to them.”
Scoop.it allows curators to aggregate articles found on the web to create digital magazines on specific subjects. The site launched publicly in November 2011 and boasts 7 million unique visitors per month. It competes with Paper.li and other social curation tools.
Read.it syncs with existing Scoop.it accounts to transfer users’ interests from the desktop version.
