Best known for home console games including Crysis and Ryse: Son of Rome, video game developer Crytek has announced a partnership with DeNA to release its first free-to-play mobile game called The Collectables. The game will challenge players to collect squad members and lead their team through gunfights around the world.
The Collectables is said to balance action and tactics, with players collecting a variety of unique soldiers, from Midas, a dual-wielding commando to Gunpoint, an appropriately named Rifleman, with plenty of options in between.
Combat takes place on 3D battlefields, with players encountering multiple enemy types and earning “game-changing” rewards as they complete missions. They’ll also unlock new upgrades and abilities for their soldiers, which can be fine-tuned between battles.
“DeNA offers unparalleled experience in the mobile gaming space, and we’re excited to be collaborating with their team to deliver The Collectables to players,” stated Paha Schulz, Director of Business Development, Games-as-a-Service at Crytek, in a statement. “The Collectables will be the first free-to-play mobile game that leverages Crytek’s cutting-edge 3D game technology CRYENGINE.”
The Collectables will come to iOS and Android devices in 2014, and will leverage DeNA’s Mobage social platform. Players can pre-register for the game now and will be notified when the game is available. They’ll also receive an exclusive character at launch, complete with limited edition gear.
