Charlie Bit My Finger Hits Half A Billion Views, Launches Spin-off Series

As Gangnam Style approaches 1 billion views, another viral video is making history on YouTube as well.  Today, ‘Charlie bit my finger’ became the first non-professional, non-music video to surpass half a billion YouTube views.  The video hit the landmark just in time for the launch of three new original web shows staring viral stars Charlie and Harry, along with their younger brother Jasper.

Management and marketing company Viral Spiral and Rightster Studios teamed up with the Davies-Carr family and made an announcement back in October that they’d be working on a series starring the boys.  It turns out that they’ve actually launched three separate series, each on their own individual YouTube channel.  There’s Biting News, a news show about viral videos from around the world; Charlie Bites…Toys, in which Charlie and his brother review popular toys; and King Of The Week, in which the boys review popular viral videos and crown one “King” each week.

Damian Collier, Founder and CEO of Viral Spiral, said in a press release, “We’re delighted that the ‘Charlie Bit My Finger’ clip has now reached the half a billion views milestone – it’s amazing to see how popular this video has become in every corner of the globe.  It’s a household name, and turning into a true ‘brand’.  We look forward to working with the boys and their family as well as Rightster, on this exciting new venture.”

The boys’ father, Howard Davies-Carr, says, “We love that such a simple video has touched so many souls.  We hope the boys can continue to lighten up peoples’ lives in the years to come.”

Kudos to the Davies-Carrs on hitting half a billion—very cool that a funny moment between brothers, accidentally captured on tape, can change everything for a family.  That being said, it will be interesting to see what kind of response their web series will get.  Trying to turn a one-hit viral home video into a sustainable series isn’t an easy task.
