Facebook Marketing Firm Betapond Acquires App Developer IPlatform

By David Cohen

Consolidation of Facebook-related companies made its way across the pond, as Ireland-based Facebook marketing firm Betapond announced its acquisition of U.K.-based application developer iPlatform, as reported by TechCrunch.

According to TechCrunch, Betapond’s clients include M&S, Unilever, Intel, Avis, Red Bull, Tourism Ireland, The Met Office, and Paddy Power.

Meanwhile, iPlatform, which claims to have been Facebook’s first U.K.-based preferred developer, counts McDonald’s, Google, Gumtree, and Hewlett-Packard among its clients, TechCrunch reported.

iPlatform Founder Joshua March told TechCrunch the deal indicates that developers are becoming more advanced in their competition for clients, adding:

This is a sign of growing maturity in the market. Digital agencies are now able to deliver many simple Facebook apps, but the kinds of highly sophisticated social technologies Betapond builds are something else completely, and they have led to the rise of a new kind of company, where large scale is advantageous.
