News that a 5.9 magnitude earthquake struck Virginia with tremors felt across the northeast sent people scrambling to Twitter to share the news and make a funny. Within minutes, Buzzfeed and Business Insider had collected the “best Twitter responses,” Foursquare is taking check-ins at @Earthquakepocalypse, and Mashable has got its earthquake/Twitter coverage.

News outlets, many, of course, with newsrooms in the affected areas, are providing constant updates about travel interruptions and other responses on Twitter, websites, and other platforms.
