Update: Oreo Breaks Guinness Record For Facebook 'Likes'... For Now

Yesterday, we reported on Oreo’s attempt to get into the Guinness record book by gathering the most Facebook “likes” in a 24-hour period. Congrats to Oreo.

A post on the cookie brand’s Facebook page this morning announced that it had broken the record.

“We’re now the first brand with the record and the world’s most liked cookie all thanks to you,” it says.

And in the Guinness post announcing the record, it says Oreo broke the record by accumulating “114,619 ‘Likes’ to a single post.”

But what about Lil Weezy?

Update to the update!: Lil Wayne has broken Oreo’s record.

If you remember, shortly after Oreo announced its bid for the record, Lil Wayne sent a note to his 20 million fans via his Facebook page, asking them to “like” him to break the record.

“We are, however, aware of Lil Wayne’s attempt for the same record which is currently ongoing. Guinness World Records will review any applicant’s evidence once they have completed their attempt, which in this case is at the end of the 24 hour period,” the Guinness post reads.

So Oreo is likely to only hold the record for a short time. Well, they can always say they were the first.

Update: As expected, Lil Wayne has broken Oreo’s short-lived record with 588,243 likes in 24 hours. And it looks like people are still liking Lil Wayne.
