Ketchum CEO Ray Kotcher sat at a table flanked by Council of PR Firms president Kathy Cripps and PRSA president and COO Bill Murray at last night’s PRWeek Awards in New York.
While Kotcher didn’t win the coveted PR professional of the year award – that went to Pfizer’s Ray Kerins – he had more than enough reason to celebrate, as Kethcum won four awards, including campaign of the year for their work with client Dreyer’s Ice Cream. In addition, subsidiary agency Emanate won the prestigious agency of the year award.
Who where the other big winners?
Golin Harris took large agency of the year, beating out the usual suspects, including Edelman, Ketchum, Fleishman Hillard and Weber Shandwick.
Ford’s Scott Monty and Ogilvy’s John Bell celebrated their win for best use of social and digital. After the show, Monty took a shot at rival General Motors and their current campaign around the SXSW festival.
He expressed some happiness that many in the media are referencing the Chevy/GM campaign as a follow up to Ford’s “Fiesta Movement.” Both involved bloggers road tripping around the country and documenting their efforts.
“Those are your tax dollars at work,” said Monty, referring to the recent GM government bailout.
Other big winners included Catalyst PR taking home boutique agency of the year and Lambert Edwards and Associates winning small agency of the year. Expect both of those shops to receive a lot more new business calls in the coming months.
Porter Novelli took home public sector campaign of the year for their work with the FDIC and best use of research and measurement for work with the CDC.
MWW Group won promotional event of the year for work with Ikea. The agency also won investor / financial communications campaign of the year for work with Emerisque Brands.
Waggener Edstrom’s twitter analytics service, Twendz, won PR innovation of the year.
Cohn & Wolfe won tech campaign of the year for their work with SanDisk. The agency also won community relations campaign of the year for their work with RadioShack.
IBM won corporate branding campaign of the year.
Weber Shandwick won cause related campaign of the year for work with Yum Brands, and best use of audio / video for work with Population Services International.
Fleishman Hillard took home public affairs campaign of the year for work with the Fix Housing First Coalition. The agency also won non-profit campaign of the year for work with the St. Baldrick’s Foundation.
Surprisingly, Edelman didn’t win any awards, although the agency did garner a few honorable mentions.
