Today was White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs’ last day on the job! President Obama stopped by his last press briefing to return a tie he borrowed seven years ago as he was about to speak at the Democratic National Convention. The tie was framed with a personal note. Aww. It’s like a Judd Apatow movie.
Now Jay Carney steps into the Press Secretary shoes. The Washington Post takes a deep dive into the dynamics of the comms team that Carney will be working with. The paper’s columnist Dana Milbank also writes about what we can expect from Carney once he’s settled in.
“Carney, if he feels pressure to prove his loyalty to Obama, may be even more guarded with information,” Milbank writes. “In fact, the preferred candidate of many in the press corps was Bill Burton, Gibbs’s deputy.” Good luck Jay.
