Last October Vimeo introduced Couch Mode, a new leanback-style way to watch Vimeo videos in full screen from, well…your couch. The service, similar to YouTube Leanback, was designed maximize the experience of watching videos from your television and this week Vimeo has announced some big improvements that have made Couch Mode a whole lot better. Read on to learn more.
The biggest improvement made to Couch Mode is that it is now available virtually anywhere. Originally, Couch Mode only worked on Safari and Chrome. Now it works in all browsers. But that’s not all. They’ve also added the following improvements:
- Couch Mode now has tablet support, so you can watch your favorite Vimeo clips in Couch Mode on your iPad or Android tablet.
- The original Couch Mode had very simplified navigation—it allowed you to watch videos that you “like” or decide to “Watch Later”, along with Staff Picks, videos from your inbox and your own uploaded clips. Couch Mode now features tons of new navigation, making it easier to browse users, Albums, Channels and Groups as well.
- The new couch mode features global search as well. To search, just start typing. The search box will pop up.
- Couch Mode is now context-aware. What does this mean? On every video page, channel or group you’ll find a ‘View in Couch Mode’ button. Click it and it will pop open the video (and other videos from the channel or group) in full screen Couch Mode glory.
