EA Mobile has released the latest major content update for The Simpsons: Tapped Out on mobile devices, bringing the monorail back to Springfield, and allowing players to convert junk, metal and other recyclables into pieces for the monorail track, among other prizes.
The update begins with players building the free Garbage Dump and sending Homer to pick up trash in an effort to deal with Springfield’s garbage problem. Lyle Lanley appears to convince the town to build another monorail, and the town decides to turn its garbage into the materials necessary to build it.
In this event, players will send characters on jobs to gather Junk, a special currency for this event. As gamers collect Junk in bulk, they can give it to Sebastian Cobb at the Project Board (which is free to build) to earn monorail blueprints. Players can also convert their Junk to metal at the Metal Depot (also free to build) via another set of special jobs. Over time, players will also unlock a Plastic Depot and Glass Depot. Eventually, players will need to collect different amounts of these items to fulfill Cobb’s orders at the Project Board.
The first main prize in this event is the Monorail Station, which also includes three free track pieces for the monorail itself. The Monorail Station requires 3,000 blueprints to unlock. The event is split into three Acts, with Act One being available for the next 10 days, and offering additional track pieces, station upgrade parts and the Ray Patterson character as prizes. Acts Two and Three will be unlocked later.
The monorail update includes a social element, which allows players to dump three loads of garbage in each friend’s town each day. Doing so rewards players with extra free Blueprints. A premium ‘Dumping Permit’ item is available to purchase in the store for 90 Donuts (the game’s premium currency), which doubles the rewards players receive from dumping garbage in friends’ towns.
As part of this update, players can purchase new decorations and other items (including premium items) in the game’s store, including Recycling Bin and Garbage Pile decorations. New buildings include Little Lisa’s Recycling Plant (which generates blueprints automatically) and Krusty’s Drive-Thru Station, among others. Players can also purchase the Jesse Grass character. Finally, gamers will also receive the Conductor Homer costume for free.
