Telltale Games, Mojang Announce Minecraft: Story Mode for Mobile

Minecraft Story ModeTelltale Games and Mojang have announced the development of Minecraft: Story Mode – A Telltale Game Series for mobile devices. The game will be a narrative-driven, episodic experience, in keeping with Telltale’s previously successful titles like The Walking Dead and The Wolf Among Us. In it, players will meet new characters in the world of Minecraft they’ve come to know and love, but while the setting is familiar, the game will offer an entirely original experience for fans.

“Partnering with Mojang is a dream come true for us as game makers and as storytellers,” said Kevin Bruner, president and co-founder of Telltale Games, in a statement. “Minecraft is a world of infinite possibility and imagination. Working with the Mojang team on our own unique, story-driven interpretation of their fascinating universe is a tremendous honor. We simply cannot wait for fans across the world to take off with us on this new adventure.”

Minecraft: Story Mode – A Telltale Game Series will be available to download on iOS and Android devices in 2015. The game is also coming to Xbox and PlayStation consoles, as well as PC and Mac. The game’s story will be written by Telltale, but Mojang and some community members will also have input, all in an attempt to make the game, as Mojang says, “as Minecrafty as possible.”

“People really like the idea of stories about Minecraft, but forcing a narrative into our core game experience would restrict players’ freedom to view the world in their own unique ways. Instead, letting them explore an alternate interpretation via Minecraft: Story Mode, driven by the proven might of Telltale, seems like a no-brainer,” added Owen Hill, chief word officer at Mojang. “We’re big fans of Telltale Games at Mojang, and we can’t wait to reveal more details on Story Mode soon.”
