Square Enix Announces Guardian Codex for Mobile

The role-playing game will take players to the year 2030, in a world split between two forces: the Empire and the Resistance.

Square Enix announced Guardian Codex for iOS and Android. The role-playing game will take players to the year 2030, in a world split between two forces: the Empire and the Resistance.

In Guardian Codex, players will join the Resistance in their battle against the Empire. Users will enter the Codex, a “virtual-reality version of the world from ancient times,” on a quest to find the legendary Guardians, who can be used to defeat the Empire.

Guardian Codex is being created by the team behind card battle games Guardian Cross and Deadman’s Cross. In addition to offering single-player gameplay, Guardian Codex will allow users to work together with up to three other players in a multiplayer mode.

Guardian Codex is expected to launch for free on iOS and Android this fall.

Square Enix has launched a pre-registration campaign for the game, and the number of users who pre-register will determine the in-game rewards players will receive once the game launches. For instance, if 100,000 users pre-register for the game, users will receive a four-star Banshee character.
