Shorty Awards Nominations have Closed

Like the Oscars, but for Twitter, the Shorty Awards recognizes the best in 140-character content creation. And now that the nominations have closed, it’s up to the Real-Time Academy to determine who will a Shorty Award in each of the 30 official categories on Award Night, March 28.

The Shorty Awards nominations ran through the month of January up until the end of Social Media Week on February 11th. There were more than 750,000 nominations made via Twitter, as people tweeted who they thought deserved some recognition for their Twitter work.

On March 28th, at The TimesCenter in the New York Times building in New York, the 6 finalists in all 30 categories will be whittled down to one in each, and given an award of recognition for their influential tweeting.

The Real-Time Academy will now determine the winners in a variety of categories, including actor and actress, charity, government, humor, social media expert, and tech. The Academy itself is composed of leaders in social media, technology, journalism and culture.
