Random House to Digitize Thousands of eBooks

Capitalizing on the current eBook trend, Random House Inc. announced Monday that it will make thousands of additional books available in digital form, according to the Associated Press. That will include novels by John Updike and Harlan Coben, as well as several volumes of the “Magic Treehouse” children’s series.

The report said that Random House already has more than 8,000 books in digital form and is on its way to a total of about 15,000. After stalling for many years, eBooks are finally beginning to gain in popularity due to today’s improved eBook readers, cell phones with eBook software, and the high visibility of Amazon’s wireless Kindle device on Oprah and in other high-profile magazines.
