Facebook-owned photo- and video-sharing network Instagram announced earlier this month that it would purge fake and spammy accounts, but how did that step affect follower counts? Social analytics provider Quintly examined a sample set of 3,500 Instagram profiles to find out.
Quintly found that:
- Profiles with more than 1 million followers saw an average drop of about 18 percent.
- Profiles with up to 1,000 followers took an average hit of 14 percent.
- Midsized profiles came out virtually unscathed, with losses of just 1.9
