At a mobile advertising panel called “Enter the Titans” at yesterday’s OMMA Mobile conference in New York City, some of the biggest players—including Microsoft, Yahoo, AOL, and Nokia—described mobile advertising as either still emerging, or at a transitional phase while Internet advertising expands to cellphones, MediaPost reports. Some quoted highlights:
– Louis Gump, mobile chief for the Weather Channel said that according to a recent Jupiter Research report, 7% of major advertisers said they planned to spend more than $1 million on mobile ads this year and 13% would spend more than $100K.
– Microsoft’s mobile ad chief Glenn Myers said there’s still “much innovation to come in mobile before the code is cracked for what works uniquely well in the medium.”
– Yahoo’s Paul Cushman talked about the company’s efforts to open up their mobile platform so that developers can create new applications.
MediaPost also remarked that “No fights have broken out between Yahoo and Microsoft on the panel yet.”
