Who doesn’t love popcorn, right? But wouldn’t popcorn be even better if you didn’t have to reach for it? If it came to you wherever you were, whenever you wanted it? Popcorn Indiana turns popcorn into the ultimate lazy man’s food with their Popinator Project—a machine that makes snacking fun by launching popcorn into your mouth, wherever you happen to be in a room, every time you say “Pop!”
A video about the Popinator Project has gone viral this week, racking up 338,000 views so far. The video description explains how the machine works: “The Popinator is able to pinpoint where in the room the spoken word originated from and shoot a piece of popcorn at it. The Popinator shoots up to 15 feet and is for inside use only.”
Popcorn Indiana has done everything right with this campaign, if you ask me. Not only are they driving views, but they are also driving conversation. Viewers are asking about whether or not the machine is real, talking about how cool it would be if it were and, of course, making the requisite jokes about Magnitude from Community (“Pop! Pop!”).
I, for one, would be thrilled to find out this machine was the real deal—something that I can only imagine will be revealed in the coming weeks—but even if it’s not, I still think the campaign is a major success. It’s entertaining, it’s original and, most importantly, it makes me want to eat popcorn. And as far as Popcorn Indiana goes, I’m pretty sure that’s their main goal.
Now where my Popinator at?! POP!
