Rob Reiner and YouTube are doing something that’s never been done before—on Saturday, March 3 they’re hosting a play reading starring George Clooney, Brad Pitt, Martin Sheen, Kevin Bacon, Jane Lynch, Matthew Morrison, Jamie Lee Curtis and others and they’re inviting the world to watch online.
Rob Reiner announced the event this morning on the YouTube blog. The play is called 8 and is written by Academy Award winning screenwriter Dustin Lance Black, writer of Milk. It is about marriage equality and the Proposition 8 trial. Reiner writes, “The play…is an account of the case filed by the American Foundation for Equal Rights (AFER) in the U.S. District Court in 2010 to overturn Proposition 8, a constitutional amendment that eliminated the rights of same-sex couples to marry in the state of California.”
Reiner says, “The Prop 8 proponents are still trying to hide what happened at the trial so we’re gonna do the exact opposite—we’re gonna broadcast it to the entire world!”
The livestreamed pre-show begins on Saturday at 7:30pm PT with the show beginning at 7:45. You can tune in at youtube.com/americanequalrights to see the reading live from the Wilshire Ebell Theater in Los Angeles. Will you be watching?
