Digital isn’t just about the books that reach consumers. Of course, publishers are using digital technology to handle the pre-pub life of their books as well. Edelweiss, a provider of Web-based digital catalogs for publishers owned by Ann Arbor-based Above the Treeline, provides catalog and some marketing services for many big name houses, including Random House, HarperCollins, Penguin, and Norton, among others. Today, Edelweiss announced that they’ve added NYU Press to their list.
Edelweiss will publish NYU’s front and backlist catalogs on the Web, and they will be available by the end of December, according to a press release. NYU joins a number of other university presses who are Edelweiss clients, such as Georgetown, Columbia and Cambridge University Presses.
Edelweiss also offers Twitter and blog tracking for its clients. In an email exchange, Mark Evans, director of marketing for Above the Treeline, told eBookNewser about the “Tweet and blog tracker that checks all Edelweiss titles nightly for mentions in Twitter and blogs and ranks them. Users can see the relative ‘buzz’ for a title and click through to see the actual tweets or blog search results.” That’s handy stuff.
