Keep your eyes open for red balloons—specifically, moored red weather balloons. It could be worth $40,000.
The U.S. Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) is celebrating the 40th anniversary of Internet predecessor the Arpanet (Advanced Research Projects Agency Network) with the DARPA Network Challenge, in which 10 moored red weather balloons will be launched from 10 fixed locations in the continental United States, with the first person to send in the GPS coordinates of all 10 balloons taking home $40,000, ReadWriteWeb reported.
