Nexon Launches Pocket MapleStory MMORPG on Android

The side-scrolling game allows players to complete more than 1,500 quests, and offers both single and multiplayer gameplay.

Nexon has announced the worldwide release of Pocket MapleStory on Android devices. This side-scrolling MMORPG is inspired by the original MapleStory, which has been available on PC for more than 10 years. Pocket MapleStory allows users to explore Maple World and complete more than 1,500 quests.

In Pocket MapleStory, users choose to become one of three heroes: Dual Blade, Angelic Buster or Demon Slayer. Each has its own skills and fighting style, and more characters will be added going forward.

Players explore environments using a virtual joystick for movement and buttons for jumping, attacking and hot bar items, like potions. Players can join parties with other users to complete dungeons in real-time, and can also join guilds with others gamers.

As players progress, they can upgrade their character’s skills, and can create new items using recipes. In addition, users can customize their hero’s appearance through outfit items, hairstyles and more. Pets and mounts are also available.

In a statement, Myoung Il Kim, director of Pocket MapleStory at Nexon Korea, commented:

MapleStory is one of the most beloved online PC games of all time, adored by millions and millions of fans around the world. We can’t wait to see how Pocket MapleStory helps to build on and grow the legacy of the PC game. We are extremely proud to be releasing this title to the world and cannot wait to see how the fans of the original—and new players alike—embrace Pocket MapleStory.

In celebration of the game’s worldwide launch, Pocket MapleStory is holding two launch events allowing users to win prizes. First, the Guild Shot Event invites guilds with at least 10 players to post an in-game screenshot on Facebook for a chance to win 2,000 in-game candy currency for each member of the guild. Three guilds will win this prize.

Meanwhile, the Boss Master Event challenges players to defeat the game’s first boss monster and share their experience on Facebook for a chance to win 3,000 in-game candy currency. Three players will win this prize.

Pocket MapleStory is now available to download for free on Google Play, and is coming soon to iOS. Prior to this worldwide release, the game was downloaded more than seven million times in Asia.
