Layoffs at Monster.com

This week’s sign of the unemployment apocalypse: Monster.com parent Monster Worldwide is letting people go.

Boston Business Journal reported that the job-search site shed 200 positions from its global work force, leaving its total at some 5,600.

Monster vice president of public relations Matthew Henson told Boston Business Journal the reductions had nothing to do with the company’s recent acquisition of HotJobs from Yahoo!, saying in an email:

As we have been doing for the past 24 months, we continue to restructure, reorganize, and, importantly, reinvest in ways that we believe are necessary to meet our ever-growing and changing business needs.
