LinkedIn users have long used the professional networking site to tout their credentials, network, and search for employment opportunities. Thanks to a new plug-in, which debuted Monday, they can now apply for jobs directly via LinkedIn.
Companies can add the Apply with LinkedIn button to their websites, and several already have, according to LinkedIn, including LinkedIn itself, Netflix, LivingSocial, Photobucket, Concur subsidiary TripIt, Foodspotting, GazeHawk, Munch on Me, and Formative Labs.
Users can then apply directly via LinkedIn, with the option of editing their profiles before clicking the Submit Application button.
From a post on the LinkedIn Blog by technical product manager Jonathan Seitel:
Our goal with Apply with LinkedIn is to help every professional put their best foot forward, anywhere across the Web, when they take that leap to apply for a new position, a dream job.
We are going to make it easy for you to submit your profile for any job application on the web with one simple click. Some of the first companies to debut the Apply with LinkedIn button on their company websites (besides our own) include Netflix, TripIt, Photobucket, and more than 1,000 others. In addition, we’re also working closely with the top applicant-tracking systems to help them and their customers match the best candidates for the right jobs.
We’ve put an incredible amount of effort into rethinking the job-application process from end-to-end to make it a one-click submit for any professional. The first step was simple: Put the functionality everywhere our members need it. That means packaging it as a simple button that you can recognize anywhere across the Web. We’ve made this simple enough to implement so both companies and developers can easily include it on their corporate websites.
Once you click on the Apply with LinkedIn button, you’ll get a user experience that’s been optimized for the Web. In addition to updating your profile in real-time, LinkedIn will also show you your professional connections that work at the company to increase your chances of getting hired through a referral.
Finally, we record all Apply with LinkedIn submissions in the Saved Jobs tab (under the Jobs category on LinkedIn), so you have a record of all the jobs you’ve applied to around the Web, throughout your career.
LinkedIn senior vice president of products and user experience Deep Nishar added:
Apply with LinkedIn provides an easy way for job seekers to put their best foot forward when applying for new opportunities and demonstrates a confidence in their professional identity and brand that showcases their acquired skills, experiences, and professional connections. Companies also gain access to one of the most qualified and coveted talent pools of more than 100 million LinkedIn professionals around the world.
