Has Your Facebook Profile Made This #1 Mistake?

You might be missing out on a golden opportunity to plug your fan page right at the top of your profile.

You might be missing out on a golden opportunity to plug your fan page right at the top of your profile.

Many people list their employer on their profiles and in doing so miss the chance to link to their own fan page.

Social media maven Mari Smith wisely points out that she sees this mistake more than any other on Facebook profiles — thank God we don’t have this problem, but if the top of your profile doesn’t have the kind of link that you see below, read on for a suggestion.

Do see the words “Edit Profile” in the image above, and also in your own profile? Click there and proceed to the education and work section.

Next to the word “Employer,” start typing. Only instead of completing that field, look for a pulldown menu. If the name of your page appears, select it.

You can still add other employment affiliations beneath that — including tagging current and former colleagues, which we also recommend.

How often have you seen the profile mistake that Mari points out?
