Google and Oreo Are Co-Branding Android's New Operating System

'Android Oreo' debuts with the solar eclipse

Google today introduced the next version of its Android operating system, Android Oreo, maintaining its longstanding tradition of sweet-inspired names while also giving the cookie brand some highly coveted visibility.

In a blog post announcing the OS formerly know as Android O, Google said the 8.0 version of its software is more than just a name. It also introduces new features, such as picture-in-picture video calls, autofill for navigation, additional security features and more speed.

The company also had some fun playing along with another big event today, the solar eclipse.
