How well do the Fortune 500 use Twitter? The folks at Insightpool took an in-depth look at which of the top companies in the world are rocking Twitter, and how their actions can help other businesses make the most of their own Twitter presence.
As part of their Social Currency Index report, Insightpool examined the Twitter habits of the Fortune 500.
Interestingly, not all of the companies actually use Twitter (but it is the most popular social network among them), with 418 out of 500 having an account.
Overall, it appears as though the Fortune 500 are missing a number of opportunities to build solid relationships with their audience on Twitter. 71 percent of the Fortune 500 on Twitter are following fewer than 1000 other accounts, and 83 percent retweet less than 30 times per month – both potential opportunities to engage with their customers in a meaningful way.
Insightpool takes a look at the top companies on Twitter as well, based on those that can harness the most social currency (things like retweeting, following and favoriting tweets). The number one company on Twitter might surprise a few – Live Nation, the concert promotion company and number 439 on the Fortune 500 list is apparently the best at interacting with their fans and producing social currency.
