Facebook Emails Developers About End Of Verified Apps

At the Facebook Developer Garage last week, Facebook announced that they would be shutting down the Verified Apps program, instead holding all developers to the same standards. It’s a renewed focus on ensuring that Facebook Platform applications provide a positive user experience. This morning Facebook reached out to those developers that had been part of the program with the following email:

To the Developer of XXXXXXXXXX,

Last week, we announced the extension of Verification’s standards to all applications. We have carried over what were once the Verification Checklist expectations and included them among the Principles, simplified policies (see http://developers.facebook.com/policy/) and supporting examples (see http://tinyurl.com/yjjuh68). We want to thank you for being apart of the program and for striving to meet this high bar.

On December 1st, 2009 we’ll retire the Verification brand. You will still see the Verified badge and receive the product boosts until December 1st, 2009. We have decided to compensate the initial fee on a prorated basis, which originally was intended to cover costs associated with the Verification review process. We plan to issue your prorated refund as a check so we kindly ask you to fill out the following information provided in the form below. We will need this information in order to process your prorated refund check.

Refund Form: [Google Spreadsheet URL Redacted]

Please remember that we will continue to proactively review your application so please be sure your application fully complies with the Developer Principles and Policies (see http://developers.facebook.com/policy) and the supporting Examples and Explanations (see http://wiki.developers.facebook.com/index.php/Policy_Examples_and_Explanations) or your application will not receive a prorated refund and will be subject to badge and boost removals before December 1st, 2009.

Lastly, we’re grateful to have had you as a Verified App. You’ve helped everyone discover how much better app experiences can be, and set the tone for what we’ll expect of all developers going forward. If you experience trouble with the refund form or have follow up questions please feel free to reach out to (http://www.facebook.com/developers/developer_help.php?category=Verification).
