Facebook appears to have revoked the ability to unmerge a Place and a Page, and simultaneously halted the ability to merge them.
We don’t know whether this change is permanent or a bug, or whether the unmerging ability was simply a temporary phenomenon due to Places and Pages being in different stages of development.
Regardless, merging of a Place and Page continues to result in a loss of content uploaded to the original Page, including photos and descriptions. The unmerging had provided a way for admins to recoup their Pages. Perhaps Facebook might come up with another way for admins to salvage material that disappears from Pages merged with Places.
Facebook had given admins the power to separate Place and Page in late December, a couple weeks after allowing for merging of the two.
Readers, have you noticed any changes in the possibility of merging or unmerging Places and Pages?
