Examiner.com Taps Tom Woerner as Senior VP, National Sales

Former Brandweek publisher Tom Woerner joined local news source Examiner.com as senior vice president of national sales, after serving as a consultant to the company since July.

Woerner, most recently founder and president of marketing company Vergrandis, will be responsible for driving national revenue, primarily through the Examiner Connect custom marketing program.

He founded Vergrandis, a marketing consultancy specializing in brand strategy for media organizations, in June 2009. Prior to Brandweek, Woerner also worked with CMP Media, Entrepreneur, and Home Office Computing.

Examiner.com CEO Rick Blair said:

We had an amazing year of growth in 2010 across all metrics, including reaching more than 22 million monthly unique visitors, and we are excited to have Tom on board to continue the trend. With Tom’s strengths in content, marketing, and sales, he is the perfect ambassador of Examiner.com’s value proposition and the innovative social-media offering of Examiner Connect.

Woerner added:

As brands become more aware of the need to engage consumers in an authentic and organic conversation, the need for content that provokes that conversation increases. Examiner.com has cultivated a unique relationship with more than 68,000 content producers across 240 markets, which permits us to stimulate the development of such content.

As publisher of Brandweek, I became distinctly aware of the challenges facing brand marketers. In particular, brands are tasked with making their own messaging relevant amidst the billions of conversations already taking place about them online, particularly in social media. What attracted me to Examiner.com was their unique ability to help marketers engage consumers in meaningful conversations relevant to their brands, on both the local and national level.
