English-Language Apps Have a Down Week on Our List of Fastest-Growing Facebook Games by DAU

Despite the title of this post, an English-language app does lead this week’s AppData list of fastest-growing Facebook apps by daily active users. Sadly, Frontier Bonuses is not in fact a game, but just a game utility — and not a very impressive one, at that.

Here’s the full list:

Frontier Bonuses is just one of many helper apps that have sprung up around Zynga’s most popular games, purporting to provide additional value to users in some way. This one seeks to maximize a player’s use of gifting in the game by scraping friends’ wall posts for clickable gifting links.

In the past Facebook has banned most similar apps, but developer 101 Apps seems to be successfully keeping “Bonuses” apps going for several different Zynga titles. Its particular implementation may comply with Facebook’s policies, the social network may simply not have taken notice yet, and Zynga apparently hasn’t either.

Chinese-language games have practically overrun the list this time around, assisted by the high retention typical of the mostly Taiwanese users who play them. Most of these games should be familiar to anyone who follows them, with the exception of 寵物戰爭, which combines pet raising and fighting in one game.

Finally, แฮปปี้คนเลี้ยงหม is worth pointing out. This is the second time in recent memory that we’ve seen a Thai-language game appear among the top growers. Thailand only has about six million users on Facebook for now, but it’s worth watching: not only is the country one of the fastest-growing small markets on Facebook, but its users appear to have some of the same heavy-gaming habits that make Chinese-language users so worthwhile.
