Think high fashion is only for the famous and fabulous in Paris, New York and Milan? Think again. One fashion designer is bringing the runway straight to people’s living rooms. Delivering the red carpet to your door, courtesy of a little tool called social media.
In what the fashion industry has nicknamed “Donna does the Web,” fashion designer Donna Karan has announced plans to offer a virtual trunk show for her fall connection.
Taking social networking, and fashion, to another level, Karan will debut her runway collection live online on the “what’s new” tab of her company’s Facebook page on Monday, February 14th, at 2 p.m.
Then, beginning February 22nd, customers can order Karan’s top recommendations from the collection, again on the Web, at NeimanMarcus.com.
“Donna Karan appreciates what modern women need and want from their wardrobes,” said Karen Katz, president and chief executive officer of the Neiman Marcus Group. “What could be more modern than selecting and ordering Donna’s signature sportswear via social media from their favorite mobile device?”
The social media strategy is just the latest in a series of exclusive tie-ins between the high-end designer and the high-end department store, but the first to take the effort to the Web.
Other events have included personal appearances at Neiman Marcus stores to launch Karan’s 25th anniversary lipstick collection and her Lenox tabletop collection.
“Making the Donna Karan brand available to women wherever they are is one of our top objectives,” said Carole Kerner, president of Donna Karan New York.
