Beginning today, Donald J. Foley will head Ketchum’s North American public affairs division. The move follows the trend of adding firepower on the Democratic side to coincide with the shift in leadership at big government agencies, and Foley has experience in defense, aviation, and the wind power sectors.

Foley brings brings both agency management experience, and high level political relationships to the huge Omnicom shop. His party background includes chief adviser stints with Tom Harkin (D-Iowa) and former Rep Dick Gephardt (D-Mo.), and as Convention Manager for the 1996 Democratic National Convention, and Executive Director of the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee. Foley was also managing director of Powell Tate/Weber Shandwick Public Affairs and founding partner of both Prism Public Affairs and the Seattle-based public affairs agency Gogerty Marriott.

The Ketchum release highlights his strong suits in crisis and media training. One item not mentioned is a brief and very cool position as head of the automotive X-Prize.
