Deadliest Catch: Seas of Fury Launches on iOS

The game challenges players to capture crabs to earn money to upgrade their ship.

Tapinator and HyperPower Game Group have released Deadliest Catch: Seas of Fury on iOS. An official mobile game for the popular Discovery Channel television show, Deadliest Catch: Seas of Fury challenges players to catch crabs in order to upgrade their boat and supplies to improve their performance over time.

Deadliest Catch: Seas of Fury begins as players customize their avatar and choose one of six boats from the show, including the Time Bandit and Northwestern. Players complete level, or day-based gameplay, with each day split into two parts.

The first part sees players tapping on the screen to fire a hook at a buoy in the water. Gamers must tap at the right moment, in relation to a colorful wheel. If users fire at the perfect time (which becomes harder on each level), they’ll earn bonus cash for the level, but if they fire in the wrong colored section, they’ll lose the hook altogether and must try again. Players have a limited number of hooks, which recharge automatically over time, or can be purchased instantly with a player’s earnings.

The second part of each level sees players hauling in their crab pot, with the view moving underwater. As the pot automatically surfaces, players must rapidly tap on the screen to scare various sea creatures away from the pot to protect their crabs. If a creature touches the pot, its value decreases. When the pot reaches the surface, players are rewarded with cash prizes related to the number and value of each successfully captured crab.

As players collect money, this can be spent on various upgrades for the ship or player. For instance, players can purchase improved kinds of bait to attract more individual crabs to the pot, or purchase better jackets for their avatar, which trigger monetary bonuses on each stage. Players can also purchase an upgrade for their sonic pulse tool, so they scare away more sea life with each tap, or upgrade their fishing lines, so they can haul in bigger catches on future levels. While players earn money after each level, they can also purchase cash instantly to skip the wait.

Gameplay is split into 21-day, or 21-level seasons. At the end of each season, players are sent back to level one, where the catches are worth less, but will keep their upgrades. Players are challenged to complete Game Center achievements, or climb the game’s leaderboards, by completing as many seasons as they can.

In a statement, Clark Nesselrodt, CEO and co-founder of HyperPower Game Group, commented:

There are tiny details in the Seas of Fury mobile game that only die-hard fans will truly appreciate, with even more on the way in future updates. Discovery goes the extra mile to give us the type of in-depth feedback that leads to a truly authentic game.

Deadliest Catch: Seas of Fury is available to download for free on the iTunes App Store. The game is coming soon to Android, with a Kindle version expected to release later this summer.
