Comcast and Thumbplay Announce Mobile Content Deal

Thumbplay, the mobile entertainment portal, just announced a deal with Comcast to launch the Comcast.net Mobile entertainment library, which will enable Comcast subscribers to download ringtones, games and videos directly to their wireless handsets via the m.Comcast.net site, according to FierceWireless.

The report also said that Comcast.net Mobile will offer information and entertainment as well as mobile access to email and search. It’s a strange play to get Comcast involved here, given that they provide the backbone for desktop broadband, not cellular broadband. But it’s also a way for Comcast to get their name out in front of wireless subscribers that may be thinking of tying their home broadband bill to their cell phone bill.
